Description
In response to the energy shortages in the mid-1970s, a wealthy American family undertakes an engineering project to harness the solar energy collected by the tropical oceans. Working on their ancestral estate in the Virgin Islands, they develop a facility that attracts both clandestine support and terrorist opposition. Â As the energy crisis fades and funding for solar energy shrinks, the facility is closed and placed in dormant storage.
The second generation of the family, an idealistic young engineer and his brilliant scientist sister, continue the work on a laboratory scale. Â They hope to improve the economics of the Caribbean nations, but their efforts become entangled in the ongoing competition between agencies from numerous different countries.
