Leggett, Texas: Its History and People

So little is left of Leggett, Texas, that it hardly qualifies as a ghost town. Its name survives today only because that is how the residents of central Polk country prefer to call their sprawling, ill-defined community. Leggett was founded with high hopes by the pioneer families who settled in the area about the time that Texas was granted statehood. It thrived for a while but was in time overshadowed by surrounding, competing towns. This is the story of the founding of the community, and of the original homesteaders and their descendants, many of whom still reside in the area. Illustrated with personal photographs.
