HE MAKING OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO FRANK SENAUTH Trinidad and Tobago rich mosaic is the legacy of the British plantations economy, oil, gas and other well known products, Pitch Lake which after the abolition of slavery brought many indentured workers from the British India, Indonesia, China and Portugal. They joined the descendants of African slaves, a large Jewish community, a European and Middle Eastern business and professional elite and the remnants of indigenous Arawak and Carib people. Dutch, Hindustani, Hakka, Mandarin, and Javanese are also spoken. Oil, gas and pitch have made Trinidad one of the wealthiest country in the West Indies and yet the people who live there are still poor and they have to immigrate to other countries to full fill their desire. In Trinidad and Tobago English is the medium of exchange and Hindi and Urdu are only used for religious purposes by Hindus and Muslims. His Excellency, Richard Maxwell is head of the government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. President Maxwell has no real power in the government and he is only head of the government. Prime Minister Patrick Manning has the real power of the government. We wish him all the best in his endeavor to make Trinidad and Tobago a better place to live.
