Shrinks have that “client confidentiality” thing, and anyway, going to the cops short on facts won’t get much attention. She has to tell someone, and who better than her psychologist colleague, Whittier Brand? Whit’s no math whiz, but he knows things don’t add up. Once he tackles the problem things get complex, murders multiply, factors divide, and the solution seems incomprehensible. Enter Anna, Whit’s dropout wife-cum-lawyer, Saul, a free-wheeling ex-cop from Chicago, Jesús, an undocumented immigrant, and of course, the Shack Pack. If you like intelligent thrillers, kick off your ski boots, pour a glass of something warm, and snuggle in by the fire. It’s a tale well told.
