Description

The Locust Queen's Feast is a contemporary story of parallel worlds and the loss of magic in our own. It is told against a backdrop of urban decay, alienation, obsession, and unmitigated evil. The story chronicles the adventures of a young man, his friends, and his mentor as they struggle to save our world from the Locust Queen and her minions. The story opens on Eddie's twenty-first birthday. He is obsessed with being cool, with keeping the world at arm's length. He thinks of himself as "the hotshot kid" and acts the part with a gusto that fools no one but himself. When he's stranded in a rough, rust-belt town, Eddie encounters an ensemble of characters and a reality far beyond anything he's imagined. Eddie's story moves back-and-forth between worlds: a healthy world where magic is alive; our own, damaged world; and the "Blue World," the domain of the Locust Queen. The Locust Queen feeds upon the stuff of worlds and leaves behind dead, empty husks. Our own world is nearly ready to be harvested. A handful of people know what is about to happen, and they struggle against the Queen's plans. Early on Eddie meets a long-time partisan in the struggle - an unimaginably ancient warrior who can vary his appearance to a surprising degree. The youngster also attracts the notice of and is hunted by an agent of the Queen. Once a beautiful woman, the agent has been twisted into a malignant force that haunts the shadows of worlds. The Locust Queen's Feast is a story of the Place Between Worlds, the Great Hub. There are an infinity of worlds touching the Hub. On some worlds, magic is nourished by the tears of the dreaming gods. On others, magic has failed. All the worlds hang, suspended above the chaotic realms of the elder gods. At the bottom, below all else, the Abyss yawns.
