From political motivations to Constitutional safeguards, scandals to the rules intended to prevent them, EOP Foundation's 2nd Edition of its Understanding Series on government ethics provides a concise, “living” guide to understanding and implementing the philosophy, context, and substance of ethical behavior in the private and public sectors. Our intent is to clarify the government’s current ethics rules and standards as they have been updated since the beginning of the Obama Administration. The objective of this book, in addition to providing a reference baseline, is to assist public and private officials as they seek to reconcile the rationale for policy changes and good governance. The two most significant components to understand ethics policy are considerations from which the annual required training for public officials are drawn and consequences associated with the public’s reaction to conduct and behavior which is technically not a violation but is often viewed as impropriety.
