People of the Mountains

Bright Star was one of the many Cherokee who lived in the mountains. He was soon to be called Brave Eagle, for doing an amazing feat that no other Indian boy had ever been able to do. The paint horse ran across the plains with the speed of an antelope. Swift Otter promised himself that one day this beautiful dream horse would be his. Little Fawn sat happily kicking her small brown feet up and down in the bubbling mountain stream. On her mother's shoulders hung a hemp baket full of freshly picked wild blackberries glistening in the morning sun. Their ancestors had fought long and hard to be able to keep these beloved mountains that they cherished with all of their hearts.
