Description
As an alternative to high school for young men interested in agriculture, the State Agricultural and Technology College at Cobleskill opened the doors of its only building to a class of 10 in 1916. It was an experiment at the time, although now it would be part of New Yorks BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) system. Evolving over the years, it was first a postsecondary institute for men and women interested in agriculture, home economics, and teacher training; then it became a junior college offering a multitude of degrees, including not only those listed above but also business and liberal arts; and now, 100 years later, it is a comprehensive college offering baccalaureate as well as associate degrees. Today, the campus covers over 900 acres with 70 buildings.
