First Law (Volume 1)

What would we see if we could look back into the past as history was made. Would we actually see what we have been led to believe took place, or would we see something very different? If you did have the opportunity to look back into the past, what would you choose to see and what do you think you would achieve from doing so? The scientists, astronomers and engineers at the Blackwood Mountain Deep Space Research Institute find themselves having to deal with these questions, when they attain the holy grail of astro physics and develop a laser telescope that is faster than the speed of light! This breakthrough technology when coupled with digital photography, enables them to pass images that have radiated out from earth over the millennia and in doing so look back and record them, render them and display as realtime events. As these astonishing images come to life, the question of what they should view and what they should do with what could ultimately be extremely controversial material, inadvertently leads the team at Blackwood Mountain into a hidden conflict with a an Pan Asia Islamic fundamentalist group, who themselves are being tracked by an elite counter terrorism team from the US Department of Defence. As the technology develops and becomes a reality, so to does the intrigue and machinations of the terror group drawn from countries across the Middle East and Asia Pacific, as they perceive a threat to their fundamentalist beliefs. The intriguing events that unfold entangle the lives of this diverse group, who are initially unaware of each others existence, leading to an international confrontation between science, belief and the violent world of religious fanaticism and it's unwanted child, terrorism. First Law starts the journey of what happened in South East Asia after the 9/11 attacks on New York and continues in the sequel Second Law as the web of Islamic Fundamentalist fuelled terrorism stood behind the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and the looming confrontation as the political system falls apart in nuclear armed Pakistan and a looming confrontation between Israel an Iran.
