Vampires became the hunted, and what humans lacked in superpowers, they more than made up for in numbers and ingenuity. Now, only one colony of vampires still exists in the UK. The humans call it a Reservation, but in reality, it's a farm, run by Vampismooth Incorporated, the makers of the beauty cream. The vamps are sealed off, allowed to eat only from vats of cow, sheep and pig blood to survive. This is the world Romana Lox has grown up in. This is the world she is desperate to change, to break out of. When she counter-ambushes a human poacher who's broken into the compound to bag himself a vamp, she finds she just may have the chance. With the human unconscious, she feeds from him. And with his blood comes the power of the old vampires. Power that most of the still-living vamps thought was just a myth. Suddenly, she can run faster, jump higher, lift heavier things than she ever thought possible. She can turn into mist. A bat. Even a wolf.
