Scientists and God

Have you ever wondered about the relationship between the world, science, and religion? Science and religion are the forces that have most influenced the shape of our present society. Because of these important influences, and because of the grave problems that humanity is facing, it is more necessary than ever to think about their interrelationship. An assertion of inevitable conflict between science and religion is overly simplistic. It supposes that science and religion are each congruent institutions, monoliths without any cracks, and is often defended from two extremes, scientific materialism and biblical literalism. In doing so, both groups go too far. Scientific materialism knows the methods of science, but goes beyond and thus creates philosophy. In turn, the biblical literalists make scientific assertions based exclusively on theological postulates. Scientists and God explores the worldviews of scientists and answers the question: Is it possible to accept the ideas of today's science and simultaneously maintain a religious viewpoint without falling into incoherence or intellectual dishonesty?
