Description

Lost in the vast Texas plains of 1867, Tal Ralls pays a heavy price for taking the shortest route to New Mexico to see his dying mother– across the untamed Llano Estacado. Alone, he's attacked by Comanches, incurring wounds that leave him sick and weak. A Mexican Comanchero doctors his wounds, but steals his belongings and leaves him to the mercy of hungry wolves and a raging blizzard. Rescued by a jovial German trader called Bear, Tal is taken to Adobe Walls where he encounters buffalo hunters, outlaws, gamblers, whores and murderers. Along the way they visit the camp of Bear's friend, Quanah Parker, where Tal falls in love with a beautiful Indian maiden and makes a bitter enemy of her evil brother, Raven Nose, who dedicates the rest of his life to ending Tal's. Llano Sunrise is a historic action novel and is the first book written by J. Robert Dennard who grew up in Ralls, Texas, located in the heart of the Llano. His boyhood days in the 1950's were spent roaming the canyons around Lubbock and Crosby Counties where he and his dad discovered many campsites and artifacts left by the Comanches who lived there only 75 years before them. Dennard's recurring thought about what he would do if caught out on the Llano by Comanches in their heyday led to his writing Llano Sunrise.
