Description
Commonly held belief is that as we grow older, our senses become more and more frayed. You lose a sense of time, specifically, reaction time. That is why seasoned people (a term Steve Fleming's wife Diane taught him was less offensive than the word "old" spend way too much time driving in the passing lane, barely able to process all the information confronting them. The Look-Back Campaign is an engaging visit into the life of Steve Fleming, a wealthy, 49 year old, businessman, who is continually urged by his adult children and his business partner, Robert Broad, to get back into the "game" or dating scene. Through the powers of the internet, Steve begins an expedition of reconnecting with old girlfriends, which leads to an eventful, funny, and at times, moving journey. This campaign is full of "the times were always simpler" roadside stops, but the end destination will change Steve and his family forever. The book travels gradually through the eyes of the main character and those around him. It teaches us things about ourselves including regret at middle age, hope for self-satisfaction at a point in our lives, potential paths that we might have gone down. From time to time, we all wonder about those individuals whose path we no longer cross or who no longer cross ours. And in the era of constant communication and contact, i.e. the internet, it has become easier than ever before to locate folks we have lost contact with years before. One lesson of the past is that it will either remain just that, the past, or when we begin to revive those past relationships and feelings, new events spring to life, some positive, some not so positive. We are often challenged to let the past stay in the past, but what is the fun in that?
