The Professor of Death

A HISTORICAL NOVEL BASED ON FACT: April 1993,and Sergeant Brandon Dempsey is seriously injured by a terrorist bomb in Ulster. Four of his unit lose their lives, plus two civilian 'collateral' deaths. One of the civilians killed is the only son of Sir James Taylorman - Britain's fourth richest man. When Taylorman becomes the victim of terrorism for the second time in twenty-four hours through the 'Bishopsgate' bombing in London, he swears vengeance on 'The Professor' - the mysterious genius behind the sophisticated detonating devices used by the IRA in Ulster and the main-land Taylorman sets up a secret SAS type unit in Northern Ireland to infiltrate the IRA and capture 'The Professor'. Dempsey, who was in charge of the patrol when Taylorman's son was killed, becomes the leader of this illegal unit, which includes Taylorman's fiesty daughter. It is a historical fact that, after this unit was deployed in Ulster, the death tally dropped from 82 in 1993 to just 2 in 1994. Over three years, lives are lost on both sides before the search for 'The Professor' ends in Southern Spain in 1996: a search that changes everything and everybody. This book is a work of fiction laid over historical fact. The characters are an amalgam of different people whom the author has known or has met in one role or another.
