Cityscapes

More than half of humanity now live in cities. But do cities make us civilised, or are they shaped by our animal instincts? Did city walls defend or contain, and what are their modern equivalents? How do money and medals tell the stories of urban life? These are some of the themes explored in this anthology of stories inspired by the collection of the Barber Institiute of Fine Arts. Contemporary, historical and fantastical, nostalgic and optimistic, sad, funny, sweet and sour, the breadth of these stories reflects the complexity of cities, and our relationship with them.
