Description

From an Amazon 'Top Reviewer':

.'.. a great read from every other angle. It's very difficult to tell a story in first person POV without eventually becoming dull, but Mr. X is a character with enough attitude and humor to pull it off.

The story is an autobiography of vampire Mr. X's life from the moment he was turned to 25 years later. His primary purpose in writing the book is to correct the Hollywood depiction of vampires. For example:
- Vampires are not wealthy.
- Vampiric sex doesn't exist.
- Vampires do have some health problems.
- Vampires are no more sophisticated or beautiful than humans.
- There isn't always a bond between maker and fledgling.

Sounds pretty dry, doesn't it? Luckily, Mr. X is a colorful and sarcastic kind of guy, so the stories he tells us to illustrate these points and compare them to what Hollywood has taught us are highly entertaining. He is often annoyed as he relates his experiences to us, but he throws in Just enough wisdom and humor to successfully walk the line between whiny depression and flamboyant arrogance.

I recommend giving this one a try. I read it in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed this vamp's attitude, appreciating (as he does) the irony in many of the situations he faced. Financial struggles, a vampire hunter in town, his culture's version of government interfering in everything, his hilarious thoughts on Dracula, and his human shrink sessions are just a few of the highly entertaining topics covered in this gritty tale.
