The novel starts with the discovery of a manuscript in an ancient language in the ruins of the Abbey of Kent. It turns out to be the personal recollections of a Vampire. Since the Vampire was a great composer he gained access to many royal houses and in the process realized that not all kings are strictly, Human. He also encounters Gargoyles, Wolfen and a totally new species of Vampires that are trying to exterminate the traditional Vampires as well as his greatest nemesis, the Human made Android that cannot be defeated by a Vampire. The book is also a steamy love story between the composer turned Vampire and the seductive Vampiress that had turned him many centuries ago.
