Tacoma Boy: The Life, Times and ALS Journey of Joe Honan

This book is about Joe’s life: his many friendships, his personal experiences, his work situations and his heroic journey with ALS. Joe wanted to write this book and in doing so he invited others to join in, to create with him a vivid composite of his own life and times. I believe for those of us who know Joe, we probably all remember the first time we met him; he's a very likable friend and leaves a distinct impression on people. He is an impact person, full of life and humor and dramatic moments. This essence is still within Joe, alive and well, as you will discover while reading his chapters. It is true, Joe has entered a new phase in this life, confined to a wheelchair, communicating through a voice activated computer, yet his spirit remains formidable. The wit and adventuresome nature are present in his eyes; his smile always dashing and seductive. Joe has spent many hours over the past five years writing at his computer, deliberately putting his thoughts into words using a special device called an "EyeMax" that follows his eyes and is attached to his Dynavox computer. Undaunted by an incurable disease in which he has lost control of muscle functions, Joe has found a new way to share his memorable voice with us.
