Poetry Portraits

POETRY PORTRAITS is the first published collection of poetry by native Ottumwa, Iowa resident, Jody Bresch. Published originally in 1990, the chapbook includes poems and prose that have received local, state and national honors. Because Jody now travels with a camera thanks to her new passion for photography, the chapbook is illustrated with some of her favorite photos. From the civil rights movement, to homeland terrorism, from farm crisis to her own backyard, from the big bang to soul searching spiritualism, Jody examines tough subjects with a poet's heart. She is a poet with a passion for life. Her poems are keen observations that make us recognize how special our own ordinary lives really are. She reveals the intricate depth and wonder that is all around us if but viewed with a poetic heart. We will be longing to reexamine our memories and each present moment to see the complexity and richness that we may be missing.
