A comprehensive study about propylene production via metathesis from ethylene and butenes, an alternative path to traditional steam cracking and fluid catalyst cracking. The technical aspects of a metathesis process similar to the Lummus OCT technology are reviewed. The analysis also includes estimates for both the capital investment and the operating costs of typical plants on the US Gulf Coast and in Germany.
