Description
This isn't just a brief history of a 160 acre parcel of land acquired by the Buffum family in California in the early 1900s. This is the story of a covenant with God. This is the story of coming together, building hopes and dreams for the future of a family; it is the story of memory, and of loss, of strength rebuilt through disaster. God gives us all our heritage, and He continues to see us through all our fires, taking us to the beauty of the Tiger Lily in the wakening spring. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The Buffum Homestead is located on the western slope of Hatchet Mountain some 40 miles east of Redding, California. It was filed for in 1899 and granted in 1906. Frank Austin Buffum and Florence (Maxwell) Buffum and their four children pioneered this quarter-section located on Hatchet Creek. Its original purpose was to give their herd of Angora goats a summer haven from the blistering summer heat of the northern portion of California's Great Central Valley. Many generations of Buffum descendants have enjoyed the Buffum Homestead ever since. This is their story combined with a historical look into how this singular piece of property was selected and acquired. Time frame is 1870 - 2012
