Meet Ron McTough, bored writer of downmarket pulp fiction, and owner of a mansion so luxurious that it has air conditioning capable of freezing people to death in July. For Ron, life is good. He has a string of bestsellers behind him and an equally large number of law suits ahead of him. But when he grows bored of writing his series of violent thrillers, he seeks inspiration from his friend, mystic and junk food chain owner Victor Anungu, who presents him with a magical pen which bestows talismanic powers upon its new owner. Forced by his publishers to continue the Maelstrom adventures, Ron unwisely decides to write his new story with the magical pen. Suddenly, private eye Jerry Maelstrom steps out of the literary shadows and into reality ... a reality that he, his friends and enemies are about to throw into Mayhem.
