A Profile in gratitude: This is a true story containing my experiences

These are the memoirs of a boy who lost his parents at 11. In poignantly written prose, the author recounts his relationship with his family and the others in the village where he was born, including Rev. D'fiore whom he met in his school days and who became his mentor, guide and benefactor. Set against misfortune, tragedy and life challenges, the narrative reveals the power of fortitude, equanimity and confidence. Stretched across 50 years of life on the city of Mumbai where he obtained a job after college, the story meditates on changes in the city over this time-span. It paints a picture of the various shades of human character from the man singled out as a misfit for his frankness to the bureaucrats who prefer a bluffed yes to a frank no to the children who grow up as model citizens in a system based on values in life. His experiences in Somalia under United Nations are vividly depicted. Feeling a debt of gratitude to Rev. D'fiore, he discovers ironically that his friend, Rev. D'fiore has made him a model of gratitude in his sermons. This is a book worth reading.
