Canonical Babbling and Very Early Intervention

The last couple decades of behavioral and neurological research have yielded surprising information on infants' linguistic skills. We now know that many speech-language disorders can be predicted within the first year of life, most notably from the age of onset of canonical babbling. However, very-early evaluation and intervention (that is, performed within the first year of life) is infrequently applied clinically. This book reviews what is known about speech development in the first year of life, and predicts future directions for very-early speech-language services. This book is intended primarily for professionals in the fields of infant development, speech-language pathology, and psychology.
