The late 18th and early 19th centuries saw the establishment of Bardstown as a center of the western expansion of the United States of America. There was, in particular, a strong flow out of Maryland and Pennsylvania to the land south of The Falls of the Ohio. Among these early pioneers there was the need for goods made from pottery, tin and copper, especially for the latter in the form of stills for the newly evolving Bourbon industry. So, the road was set for the arrival, in Bardstown, of the Anthony brothers, one a potter, the other a tinsmith and coppersmith. Though the Adam Anthony house, in Bardstown, KY refers specifically to his home and adjoining shop, this book is dedicated to the charming little brick house at the back of the lot which was once operated as his forge and is now a private residence;
