Curse of Cortes

The only known stocks of smallpox lie in deep freeze at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta and the Vector Virology lab in Siberia. So who released the deadly virus in New York City in time for the holidays? The city is locked down and teeters on the brink of an economic free fall and it is up to disease detective Mackey Dunn and FBI Agent Charo Chen to solve the outbreak and criminal case before the US starts another war and smallpox resumes its place as the planet’s number one scourge. Dunn’s attraction to the lovely medical examiner assigned to the case forces him to confront his demons while the usually reliable Chen deals with her own vulnerability. Dunn’s conflict is magnified by the cops’ suspicion that the medical examiner is obfuscating the investigation and knows more that she is telling about the murders of smallpox survivors. As smallpox spreads and deaths mount, Dunn and Chen follow clues left by the famous 19th century detective Allan Pinkerton and must learn how the past connects to the present in order to crack the case.
