Description

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings visited Cross Creek in 1928 and liked it so much that she moved there to write stories about it and its people, including "The Yearling" and "Cross Creek." Her house, farm, and orange grove were secluded in a wooded hammock right on the eastern edge of big Orange Lake in Cross Creek. The year after Marjorie died in 1953, the author of this book became a student at the University of Florida and soon was introduced to Cross Creek. This book is his attempt to share some of the many happenings he has witnessed in and around the hammock (Hamaca) and out on the lake with camera in hand. This book in a way follows the lead of Mrs. Rawlings to profile the natural surroundings and especially the wildlife around Cross Creek in north-central Florida.
