The Light At The End Of The Tunnel: How To Beat Cancer

In August 2012, 11 year old Jacob Cooper was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. During treatment, Jacob felt and experienced many scary and challenging things which others sometimes found difficult to relate to. He wondered if what he was thinking and feeling was “normal”, and wished he had someone he could talk to who’d also had cancer and treatment to give him some advice. Along with his cancer coach Jo Hilder, also a cancer survivor, Jacob decided to write this book to help other kids like him navigate their own cancer journey. The Light At The End Of The Tunnel – How To Beat Cancer features helpful hints for kids on what to expect after a cancer diagnosis and during treatment, including places they may go, people they may meet and how to manage thoughts and feelings, many of which they may never have experienced before. All the book’s colourful illustrations were created by Jacob, and you’ll also find some pages where kids can write observations and draw their own pictures, creating a record of their cancer journey they can look back on in the future.
