The second edition of this book explains the essential building blocks of the OSI (open systems interconnection) model as described in recommendation ISO 7498, basic functions and tasks of the seven specified layers in a simple and clear way.

It includes many examples and assigns the tasks of repeaters (or media converters), bridges, switches and routers to the appropriate layers.
