Living Colour: Beyond the Cult of Personality

NEW BOOK, JUST OUT! After years of uphill battles, Living Colour burst onto the music scene in 1988, fueled by a video for "Cult of Personality" that rode a massive MTV wave. It gave millions exposure to Living Colour's unique style of rock, and helped propel their debut album "Vivid" to platinum status. It followed that with a tour opening for The Rolling Stones and two more critically acclaimed albums filled with some of the most musically diverse rock ever recorded. The band broke through rock's color barrier, but found it quickly sealed up behind them. They tried to help others get past the hurdle, but no one made it as big as Living Colour. Amid musical and personal dissension the band called it quits in 1995. The band reformed in 2000 only to find themselves having to start all over, again fighting to show four black men can indeed play rock and roll. Based on radio, television, print and personal interviews, and detailed setlists from more than 250 shows, the band's more than quarter century career is presented here in chronolgical order.
