Description
The Niger-Delta, a relatively unknown region in the globe has now become one of the most popular regions not only in Nigeria but in the world as a whole for negative reasons. The region has been experiencing severe unrest and conflicts, and throughout the early 90’s, such popular unrest grew steadily in magnitude due to the demand for compensations for ecological damage as well as control over oil resources by the various ethnic group in the area. The magnitude of the conflict increased due to severe, incompetent and inexperienced manner in which the military administration handled it, leading to suppression and human right abuses. An administrator, who can be broadly described as developer, implementer of government policy is (was?) greatly missing in resolving the crisis in Niger Delta. This research/proposal goes in to explore why and where there are crisis in the region as well as how it can be resolved using proper administrative tools of conflict management. Also, the latest conflict intervention method (amnesty) used by the current administration will be lightly analysed to check whether it is the best approach to resolving the crisis.
