We know that IQ is rarely an accurate indicator of whether a person will succeed. We know that people of less-than-desirable backgrounds often become great thinkers, leaders, and world-changers. I think that grit is the true determinant of intelligence. That is, almost anyone who is well motivated can overcome almost any obstacle. The earth is brimming with stories of men and women who had very little education, for example, yet succeeded spectacularly in spite of the same obstacles everybody else had--the same obstacles that caused the rest of us to conclude that it was “just not meant to be.” In The Grit Project, Pastor Gerry Stoltzfoos examines the art of pressing onward, even when the world is against us.
