Description
In many of the stories we have about Jesus, we find him at the table. Table fellowship was a big deal during Jesus' day. This begs the question, “What did Jesus say and do around the table that the Gospel writers thought was so important that they wrote it down? This book looks closely at each of these stories and seeks to discover and reflect on how these stories can impact us today. The Meals of Jesus points to that sacramental quality of Jesus’ life and how holy moments occurred in the regular and ordinary acts of eating and table fellowship. It invites us to take a closer look at the meals Jesus shared and the people that he shared them with. It challenges us to reflect on what Jesus’ everyday actions around the table will teach us about the Kingdom of God. The very nature of food is sacramental. A sacrament is an outward sign of an inward change. When we have a proper understanding that all of life comes from God, even the most mundane things (like food) become an outward expression of this inward reality. It is my hope that this book will call you to live a more sacramental life, that it will help you to fall more in love with the one we call Emmanuel or “God with us.”
