Final Round at the Feeding Ground

ONCE YOU’RE IN, YOU’RE IN FOR GOOD: On the first day of January 2000, the townspeople of Fort Stevens, Oregon (population, 17,000) could breathe a collective sigh when they realized their desk top computer screens would not go black due to Y2K. The paranoia of losing their computer solitaire games was now over so they could stop talking about the end of the world and go back to talking about government conspiracies. During the next year and a half, the coastal town residents will learn of a truly destructive conspiracy orchestrated by a being that is human-like only in form and lies in wait beneath the evergreens on a nearby island. The Fort Stevens police chief and his family are the primary targets of the conspiracy soon after the chief investigates the gruesome murder of one of his family members. More murders follow. To survive, the being must feed on human flesh during the summer solstice and for centuries; it has feasted on the hides of shipwreck survivors or lone individuals that venture into its realm. When the feeding ground provides no food, the being will leave the island to look for it. The flesh consumer has allies; a has-been alt rocker, a recent California transplant and a Native American who is a descendant of a tribe that once populated the island. All of the tribal members, but one, were killed sixty years before by a gang made up of nearby small town residents. The being has decided to come out in a malevolent manner to the world, summer solstice 2001 and to also raise the dead.
