The lives that I have lived.: An illustrated autobiography

This is the story of my life. It begins, several decades before my birth, with some of my recent ancestors, and continues to the present time. I focus mainly on the events that have brought me to the position I am in today, but I also include brief information about several side interests, any of which could have given me an alternate career if I had not decided to become a professor. I have put many photographs in the text, to illustrate people or places mentioned, though they are generally of poor quality. There are three reasons for the defects. First, most of the original pictures are old and damaged. Second, recent shots have been converted from colour to monochrome for uniformity. Finally, I have frequently used only a small area of a print, highly magnified, to get a feature or person I wanted. But the photos are there not just for you, the reader; they are included to bring back happy memories for me. I hope you will f forgive their faults.
