The Statue of John Parker Hale

The Statue of John Parker Hale was first published in 1892, to coincide with the raising of a memorial in the former Senator’s Honor beside the New Hampshire Statehouse in Concord, NH. In its recollection of the unveiling of the monument, the text gives numerous first-hand accounts of “Jack Hale’s” election as the nation’s first anti-slavery Senator and his illustrious career as a champion of the anti-slavery cause, as a Senator, a Presidential Candidate, and a founding member of the Republican Party. Included are speeches by numerous friends and associates of John Parker Hale, including the renowned abolitionist Fredrick Douglass and Senator William E. Chandler, the early progressive leader from New Hampshire and Senator Hale’s son-in-law.
