The Papal Visitor

All eyes are on the pope, who appears to be getting some horrible advice from a most unholy source! Excerpt: “Hello, Your Holiness.” The voice came from behind him. Not there before, a man was now laying down in the bed behind him, his legs crossed, as he took a sip of tea. The pontiff leapt up faster than his weak body had in years, and he started for the door. Halfway across the large room, he was stopped as the man appeared before him from thin air. “I’m not here to hurt you,” he said. “I come with tidings of great joy.” Mustering all the energy he could, he created a circle of light around himself. As the pope fell to his knees and bowed before him, the visitor smiled. This will be much easier than I thought. “Stand, Your Holiness,” he said, and the pope slowly stood and looked into the eyes of the being before him, the light around him now quickly dimming. He was dressed in a slick, dark blue suit. The thinnest of stripes ran down the middle of each side. A thin red tie knotted perfectly capped the bright white dress shirt, and his eyes were—friendly. The pope was in awe of this visitor, but very scared too. “Pope Thomas, God needs your help. We all do. Change is coming to Planet Earth, and you are going to help us win the hearts of many.” The pontiff nodded and smiled. “Of course,” he told him, “I will do whatever God requires of me.” “That’s a good boy,” the visitor smiled through perfect teeth. “We are bringing more change to Earth in the days and weeks ahead than you can even imagine, but we’re going to need your help to get our message out to the people. This planet has fallen into wickedness, and it will be your job to bring the faithful back in line. The Bible has long been forgotten and misused, and we need you to help people see how much truth there is waiting to be rediscovered. Will you help us, Thomas?” The pope smiled earnestly and nodded, and then shook the open hand being offered him from the visitor. There was no way he could have known he was making a deal with Hell, no hint to the kinds of evil the pope would soon be bringing to the world in God’s holy name. In the hour that followed, the visitor sat down with the pope and paged through the Bible, pointing out Holy Scripture passages he felt the pontiff could be well served to stress to the world. Together they read passages from the Bible where God instructs women to be subservient to men, where holy slavery is justified, adultery punishable by death, homosexuality an abomination to God, and Jesus the only path to redemption with God. “All others are living in sin, and will be brought to the unholy comfort of Hell,” he explained. The pope shuddered. “The fires of Hell? How sad for them.” The visitor processed this a moment. Yeah, we’ve got fires in Hell, but they warm the place up quite nicely. The inside of Pluto isn’t exactly a sauna. More like an igloo. “Well, theirs won’t be an eternity of suffering like many fools and dreamers of this world have crafted, just a sick, lonely separation from God. You need to teach them all this and more.” As Pope Thomas listened carefully, and even took diligent notes, Yermis felt a supreme sense of pride well up within him. He was doing so well, he just knew it, and this at last would be his payback to Lucifer for the mistake he’d once made many, many years prior.
