The Low Down Dirty Truth (Volume 1)

“The Low Down Dirty Truth” is designed to show that there are extreme amounts of misconceptions about the prison system as a whole. It is an in-depth view of the prison system from the inside out. Since the beginning of civilization, penitentiaries were designed to harbor serious offenders of the law, to reform and discipline criminals in hopes that they would show penitence and regret their wrong doing or sins and make repentance for such. They keep prisoners who have been captured in custody to restrain them, and therefore try to rehabilitate them. In the past, prisons used to provide the tools to help rehabilitate the inmate. In contrast, the government has made it into a big business, focusing on greed to fill their pockets instead of giving the tools to help the inmate to rehabilitate themselves. The “Low Down Dirty Truth” is based upon my experiences spent in the prison system of North Carolina and will be a detailed account of my stay through poems, letters and writings that detail my life, relationships, judicial process and the prison system itself.
