The Service Minded Physician (Color)

The Service Minded Physician is the largest to date census of U.S. physician-leaders’ on health equity and humanism-in-medicine. Each approximately 2,000 word chapter is comprised of a personal interview with an individual physician-leader. Chapter contributors include the Directors or Presidents of the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, U.S. institute of Medicine, Doctors Without Borders, and Partners in Health. In responses to prompts based on Dr. Rachel Remen’s Kitchen Table Wisdom and Dr. Paul Farmer’s biography, Mountains Beyond Mountains, we present a diverse array of experiences that have led each major U.S. physician-leader to the belief that healthcare is a fundamental human right. Beyond a treatise on health equity, this book seeks to introduce medical students and physician trainees to U.S. leaders with an introspective pedagogy.
