The Church in Crisis: 4 Essays on Contemporary Issues for Christians in the 21st Century

In “The Church in Crisis” the author draws on his more than thirty years of experience as a Christian to address just three of the issues that are shaping – and in some cases misshaping – the church as it approaches the end of its second millennium of existence. In the first short essay,“The New Gnosis: The Gospel Under Fire In the 21st Century,” the author examines the influence of neo-gnostic ideas on the way Christians understand the Word of God. He encourages believers to stand fast upon the eternal revealed word and not to bend to the fashionable modern critics of the Bible. In the second short essay, “Christians at the Postmodern Well: Communicating Christ in the Postmodern World,” the author examines the effects of postmodern philosophy upon the minds of this generation of young people. He shares some thoughts on how to address those who are under the spell of postmodernism. In the next essay the author revisits David Wilkerson’s alarming prophetic vision for America’s future in Set the Trumpet to Thy Mouth: Hosea 8:1. In the final and longest essay, “The Church vs. Homosexuals: A Christian Response to the Contemporary Conflict,” the author draws upon his personal experiences and his faith to address this fiery topic that is dominating the news media and fundamentally transforming Christian America at the dawn of this century. The author believes that if the church in America is going to survive spiritually until the Lord’s return, Christians need to have at least a basic understanding of these issues and why it is important for the church to continue to stand fast upon its principles – rooted and grounded in Christ.
