Spinal Chords From The Devil's Backbone is a collection of 88 weekly columns written in 2013 and 2014. They were distributed to about 1,600 news outlets, magazines, blogs, independent bookstores, businesses and individuals. This is Curtis Seltzer's 5th collection of columns about life, work and ideas on his cattle- and-timber farm in Virginia's Allegheny Mountains. The Devil's Backbone is a 4,000-foot-high ridge that he sees from his office window in Blue Grass, an unincorporated village in Highland County. Seltzer has won column-writing awards from the Virginia Press Association. He has been doing farm work for more than three decades and has written How To Be A DIRT-SMART Buyer of Country Property in print and ebook. As a land consultant, he assists buyers of farms, timberland, second homes and conservation properties with research and advice. He has an M. Phil. and Ph.D. from Columbia University, and a B.A. from Oberlin College.
