Judge Porter: Notes on One of Indiana's Early Circuit Justices

Judge John R. Porter, one of Indiana's early circuit judges, traveled across the wilderness on horseback, dispensing justice in one place before riding off to do the same elsewhere across the roughly settled counties of the newly established state. He and others like him, helped to civilize the land and bring the law to the pioneer inhabitants.
