On Silica it was known that the Earth was destroyed 300 years ago by greed and ignorance

We were told that we had squandered our resources in our quest to destroy an enemy without a face or a country. We ended everything because of hate and mass hysteria. A nuclear holocaust followed.

We believed that the "generosity" of the One Percent allowed us to escape our broken world. They provided technologies and resources necessary to move us to a new home. Ships left the Earth carrying the remnant of humanity outward to points of light believed to be life-sustaining.

300 years ago some of us awoke on a world named Silica. We made a home for ourselves here, and it was very much like Earth except for some distinct differences.

Instead of technology, this world became a catalyst for magic-wielding mages and mythical creatures; as if the stories of J.R.R. Tolkien and J. K. Rowling had become real. Magic was normal, and technological advancement was the stuff of dreams.

Until now Ulrich believed that he should rally his Freeborn Army and march against the White Spire to stop the evil plague of the games, and end the tyrannical reign of Lord Technis.

But now, here was a face he had not seen for more than 300 years. The twenty-something year old face of Benjamin Roy. How was this possible? He had not aged a day.

Something was wrong. Something was changing. Ulrich was not sure what this meant, but now perhaps this sign from the universe was telling him, that this journey to the scient lands would not be his last.

The second book is a prequel story being made into an epic mixed-reality game universe by Convergence of 4 Dimensions LLC called Silica neXus.

Interview with TA Roe

Q. Why do you write scifi fantasy novels?

My first arcade game was pong. My first computer experience was on a TRS-80 Model I. The first director who's name I remembered was George Lucas. The first authors that inspired me to write fiction were Tolkien and Asimov. The first game I could not stop playing was Dungeons & Dragons (the pencil, paper, and dice version) shortly thereafter followed by Traveller and Top Secret.

Can you see where this is headed?

I've believe that we were created to mimic how the universe creates. That it is our purpose to be creative in some way; to use our innate talents to sculpt, draw, paint, build, sing, make music, or in my case create a universe of my own. I can't think of a better way to spend my life, but to play in a universe I created with my family and friends. I believe in a higher authority, an inspiration for creation; and this is how I honor that entity.

Q. Is there really a game in the works?

Silica : neXus is a mixed reality game universe that combines various interfaces into a single persistent game universe. You can play from a smartphone, a console, a desktop pc, an arcade game, a high-end location-based entertainment (LBE) simulator pod, and there are plans to build a theme park attraction that mimics what happens in the first chapter of Silica : Transition.

The neXus backstory begins with players saving the planet by closing alien portals that are destroying the Earth's core. The first phase of development will utilize smartphones and augmented reality devices to play the game. Beyond that simple beginning, we hope to create a system that allows hundreds of game development teams to plug their concepts into our universe so players can leap from experience to experience without leaving the neXus. The potential for a property of this type is extraordinary.
