Stephen Hawking: A Brief History

When you hear about words such as physics, big bang, black holes one name might come to mind, Stephen William Hawking. He is a brilliant physicist and mathematician who has significantly contributed to the science of cosmology. Hawking was born on January 8, 1942 in Oxford, England. His university education began at the Oxford where he received his BA in 1959. Thereafter, he began a doctoral program at Cambridge, where he was awarded his doctorate in theoretical physics. During his final year at Oxford, he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease or Lou Gehrig’s disease that has progressively paralyzed him over the years. Currently, he communicates through a speech generating device that is attached to his cheek muscles.
