The Dance Of Life

The inspiration behind this book came from a multitude of sources, though music, travel and dance are mine and its foundations. Added to over the years it was mostly written whilst I travelled and performed as a dancer in various events across England and Europe. Year on year my love for everything that is music, travel and dance grew ever stronger. As I got more entwined with this cultural movement and the adhesive nature of performing, my works in progress and my many literary/visual plans grew bolder. In the early days everything for me revolved around the open outdoor raves, nightclubs, warehouse parties, gigs and the many festivals of the summer time. This is the mid to late nighties, many are the prolific storms brewing in that of my writer's mind, as I found my feet in dance I was also forming my network of words. Everywhere I travelled the industry people I met just told me to go get up on stage, 'you belong' they would say. I could not and would not stop dancing though I would never take a wage, as my love of dance could never be a job; dance is just one of my many passions albeit the one I lament the most. I caught the full force of the dance music culture, on my first long summer in the clubs of Ibiza. As I travelled and lived in various countries I gravitated to the clubs, festivals and events of that place and time. It would never take long for club management and festival organisers to spot me dancing. After many hand shakes it would always end with me up on a platform, or stage for the rest of the night popping and free-styling. So, a free lance dancer I became roaming from land to land, dancing and writing as I travelled and worked various trades along the way; free in every sense of the word. Those first summers in Ibiza in the mid nineties, cemented me in this culture and adhered me to a feeling; with its very own type of healing. That feeling is living for and sharing the moment, everything the dance music culture stands for. I simply needed to lay down how we feel with regards to these scenes and all the artisans and legends behind them. This book is a collection of thoughts, feelings, actual dreams, actual events, theories, moments in time, reflections and the recollections of the smiles and cries in life. The many flavours of my experiences, my passions and my life defining forces are the back bone of my books. The Dance Of Life was such a pleasurable journey of self awareness. There was always a bigger picture to paint with what it is that I am trying to describe, so I waited, patiently as this book would be the introduction to a succession of events. Now comes an urge to film. A long standing love affair with music, travel and dance is now why I crave to be behind the camera, or glued to my laptop in my editing suite.You see, dance gave something to me that carries me through life, it gave and still gives me all I need to be militant with all of my dreams. To me life is a simple matter of outflanking your own self doubt, the hue of you will only get brighter when you understand that the only thing that encumbers you, is you. At heart I am a risk-er of failure and I wear it like a badge self expression, this stance in life has seen me chase all my wants and dreams and live them.
