📖 Description
"I saw the gold" is a pamphlet in our museum about a prospector who managed to locate gold in the area and keep his location secret. Althea, as a young woman, studied under this prospector and knew him personally. She saw the jars of gold that he brought back and buried in his yard where she was studying. She learned metallurgy and had a hectic life, living in Mexico and assaying silver for the owners of a silver mine; was taken to Guatemala for revenge but managed to return to the United States.
During her long lifetime, she had three husbands, but all family life was secondary to her desire to find the gold that she dreamed about. Her adventure filled life was, to her, a failure, because she could not find gold.
Mysterious predators seemed to follow her wherever she went. Although she was a beautiful girl and lovely woman, she was very unwomanly in her interests and achievements. Was it the attraction with no response that caused the trouble that plagued her life?
