A Blueprint for Geometry (Math Projects Series)

In this two- to three-week unit, students read and draw floor plans and elevations, figure building costs, and build a scale model of a house. As students solve the problems inherent in building a structure, they learn scale, measurement, and architectural symbols and use their problem-solving skills and creativity. Seventeen architect's plans, student outcomes, materials and procedure lists, and blackline masters are included. The companion poster presents a floor plan from the book, drawn to architectural standards, together with photographs of the construction and the finished house. A chart, great for use with the book or as a stand-alone, shows and defines the symbols used in the plan. Includes an 8-page guide with suggested activities and a blackline master for the plan.
