Offering a regular and accessible source of longitudinal information that emphasizes the previous year’s developments, Brassey's Central and East European Security Yearbook details trends in security policies and shifts in personnel responsibilities and strategic emphases. An “analytical annual,” it describes not only what happened in specific countries but also considers competing or alternative reasons why the events occurred.

The contributors to the 2002 edition include regional security experts from the U.S. Army War College, the Rand Corporation, the National Defense University, the Carnegie Endowment, the Jamestown Foundation, the Geneva Center for Security Policy, Clingendael (the Dutch Institute of International Affairs), the George C.
