It is the author's intent to provide guidance in the process of systematic inquiry or research. Their goal is to demystify research so that readers, who are largely practitioners in adult education enrolled in graduate studies, feel comfortable in doing research in their practice. The book is organized according to three research paradigms--empirical-analytical, interpretive, and critical. This provides a framework for the discussion of quantitative, qualitative, and critical research methodologies. In addition, the book covers the practical topics of considering ethical issues, reviewing the literature, collecting data and disseminating findings. Through the use of extensive examples and activities for student to complete, the authors take the reader through the process of planning and conducting research.
