Winged Magic

The study of birds has intrigued & puzzled ornithologists for centuried. March in England sees one of the most remarkable mass movement of birds. The great rook roosts, where there are nightly gatherings in the thousands, break up after the winter. The foreign rooks go overseas to Scandinavia & Germany, while the native rooks start nest-building. The tiny wren is a migrant who stays until the Autumn, then flies to France & Spain & crosses the Mediterranean to reach beyon the Sahara in deep Africa. Swallows leave this country in September for the African Kraal. What gives them a fantastic sense of aerial navication, unknown to Cabot, unthought of by De Gama?
